How Access Barnsley is making mobility more manageable this Christmas

In addition to arranging scooter hire, Access Barnsley provides volunteers who can assist people in need of help while travelling and shopping in the town centre.

This help can take take the form of giving clients a hand to get into town via different methods of transport as well as providing a combination of companionship during the trip and practical help when the need arises.

How to hire a scooter or wheelchair

We have powered scooters and manual wheelchairs that can be hired Monday - Saturday (excluding Bank Holidays) for either a day or half a day.

Costs are as follows: Full Day:£5.00 per day from 9:30am to 4:00pm Half Day:£3.00 per half day, which is (morning) 9:30am - 12:30pm or (afternoon) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Assisted shopping fees: £5 for 90 minutes including the hire of a wheelchair (subject to volunteer availability)

Assisted car shopping: hire charges apply plus mileage cost paid directly to volunteer (again subject to volunteer availability)

We ask clients to register with us ahead of booking any equipment or assistance services and to undergo a safety assessment - there is no charge for either of these. Bookings can then be made up to 7 days in advance.
